Here is a shot from 1986 that shows

some classic NT storefronts along

Beekman Ave. I especially note the

presence of numbers 64 to 68, all of

which have since burned down (and,

at last report, are still vacant lots).

At far left, we can see two of the

remaining original buildings: a cor-

ner restaurant; and then, what is

remembered as "Malandrino's Deli"

by many of us. At far right, "Fleet-

wood Pizzeria" is situated at #70, the

the last of the extant buildings pic-

tured. There's still a pizza place there,

though it doesn't go by that name.

Recent pizzeria names include "Casa-

letto's," "Prego's," and "Zee Pizza").

Located between that aforementioned

deli and #70 came these shops, at

various times: "Lillian's Beauty Parlor,"

"All-Star TV" (note the TV, extending

above the roof line), "Diapers to Duds,"

"Caleb's Restaurant," and "Little Pete's

Luncheonette," as well as that clearly-

marked deli in the photo (perhaps, at

one time, it housed Caleb's or Pete's?)

Reportedly, earlier in the 1980s, that

same building--just to the left of the

pizzeria--was occupied by the "Beek-

man Coffee Shop." Lastly, these notes:

I can't make out any building on this

part of the avenue that was serving

exclusively as a residence. And there

is no truth to the rumor that some

locals referred to this street as BM Ave.
